MP Hussein Mounes:
The anniversary of the martyrdom of the martyr Izz al‑Din Salim – the President of the Republic of Iraq during the transitional governing period – passes, and with it returns the image of a man who entered politics with the mind of a thinker, the steadfastness of a fighter, and clean hands – at a time when interests and principles were mixed.
He departed in body by a treacherous explosion, but he remains present in the memory and conscience of the faithful – because men are not measured by the length of their lives, but by the depth of their impact.
He knew that the road to a free Iraq was paved with blood, yet he did not retreat, did not compromise, and did not sell his cause.
Izz al‑Din Salim ascended (as a martyr), but his name remains a witness to an era in which some sought positions, while he sought the state.
He left this world standing, and his stances remain higher than the noise of the opportunists and purer than the applause of the fickle.
Glory to the martyrs who give homelands their dignity, even if that dignity is written with their blood.
